The difference between physical and mental mediumship
The difference between Physical and Mental Mediumship is:
Physical Mediumship is when Spirit takes over the material body. A common feature for almost all types of physical phenomena is the need for a supply of ectoplasm.
ECTOPLASM
Ectoplasm is a living substance. It is the external layer of protoplasm in a cell. It is ideaplastic in nature, and capable of being moulded by the power of mind, i.e. the medium's own mind, or the actions of an invisible intelligence external to the medium. (B )both involve a form of consciousness, spiritual in nature and independent of the medium's physical organism.
Spirit operators are able to draw from the body of the medium through pores orifices the ectoplasm in appearance is said to be like a vapour or very fine chiffon material. Spirit operators are then able to shape, mould and solidify the ectoplasm into many different forms from a rod to a complete materialised form that acts as a separate entity, feels apart from the medium's senses, functions independent of the mediums muscles, and thinks outside o the mediums brain. The ectoplasm is drawn from all circle sitters in small quantities but a physical medium acts a reservoir for the supply of ectoplasm and is responsible for providing the Spirit People with the necessary means for producing physical phenomena.
Ectoplasm is very sensitive to white light, and in most reported instances of physical phenomena required the conditions of darkness or a dim red light. In some recorded case blue or green light was also used.
There have been documented reports as to complete materialisation taking place by day light and white electric light but these instances were rarity. On the whole white light proved to be destructive force to the formation of ectoplasm. During materialisation both chemical and physiological changes take place within the mind and the body to the physical medium. Any sudden disturbance of white light could cause the medium great danger as in the reported instance of the famous medium Helen Duncan. Almost all materialisation takes place while the physical medium is in a state of deep trance, and the medium is then under total control of Spirit and oblivious to his/ her physical surroundings. I n order to safeguard the medium it is of the utmost importance that the full instructions of the control are followed. Spirit is forever experimenting with new ways to communicate in order to bring the teachings and evidence within the midst of mankind. By physical phenomena we could see the changes taking place.
Many agreed the reason why it was necessary for early forms of mediumship to be of a physical nature are I t started with the raps on furniture and walls but the effects produced with physical phenomena can be seen so those who see it can have no doubt. Many people whose materialistic view of life had prevented them from accepting evidence on survival have become convinced that discarnate spirit can manifest and prove indisputably that there is life after so called death. The most important reason behind the physical nature was it was the intelligence behind the raps. Materialisation is the full expression of physical mediumship of the final product of other kinds of psychic manifestation. which is very impressive happening in which a spirit is temporarily able to appear as physical entity visable to all persons present as solid intelligent being who can converse audibly and when touched responds as a warm sentient being similar to the one known before the death of the physical body.
Physical Mediumship is when the spirit world move objects or make noises for people to hear and see.
Mental Mediumship is done through a mediums "mind" and is either perception or control.
One type of physical phenomena is Telekinesis which is the movement of objects. An object without being touched will move across a room or jump in the air and drop slowly or quickly.
One type of mental phenomena is "Spirit Writing". It's great use is to obtain teachings from the Spirit World. There is automatic writing where the medium may feel the sensation of electric impulses going down their arm and feel as if their hand does not belong to them. There is also inspirational writing where the medium writes down thoughts coming into their mind. This can take on the form of poetry.
